Sweatin’ Bullets

I took the kids out today to play kickball. Same things I had to deal with again (bad behavior). It was not too bad of a walk if it wasn’t so hot outside. But this was the first time in this whole week that it hadn’t poured. It was good to be out, instead of having them watch movies all day. No kids were run over when crossing the street, that was good news-all in all it was a success. I was wearing my silk/wool sweater–so that wasn’t the most comfortable attire.

So what have i been doing? I am writing a grant for the Avon foundation to fund my Girl’s Tech Club idea for my non-profit. The CEO of Avon is Chinese! I keep telling myself, make it compelling. I have key words that help guide me to where I want to be. A few month ago, it was “Direction”…i lacked direction and needed some support for what I needed to accomplish here as a Americorps Vista. Now it is “Compelling”. I need to write the grant where it is sooooo compelling, that the reader would cry and say “We need to fund this project now!”

So that’s what I have been doing. Oh and I’ve been teaching this elderly lady computer basics. She was the one who suggested that I should write about her. Although I feel it is not proper to write about your clients especially in a blog for public viewing. However, i will just say that there are many people that is like her that simply needs someone that cares about their well-being and teach them a skill or two. When she smiles she reminds me of my grandma. And then I want to reach out and hug her. It is that caring, grandma look that they give to their grandchild. I don’t feel sad automatically when I think about it, but I definitely feel I should have been nicer when my grandma could still recognize who I was. I wish it were my own grandma I was talking and teaching computers to. So I encourage her that she needs to keep practicing, and not to forget. I also tell her exercise is very important. I really hope she continues to come. It is rather unusual for women her age to try to learn about technology. So I give her my patience and time if she continues to make the effort to drive here.
